Clare Walton – Portrait Artist

Clare Walton is an English artist who lives on the edge of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. She currently paints full time in her own studio based in an old mill building in a small Derbyshire Village around the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

Clare is a portrait painter. Her work is highly detailed which has evolved over a number of years since graduating in 1989 from Leicester University where she studied 3 Dimensional Design and Interior Design. Her work is about people, pets, animals and objects, which are influenced by the emotions of that time and place.

She likes to push the materials that she uses to the absolute limit and she tries to give a 2 dimensional painting as much of a 3 dimensional effect as possible. She works in pastels, pencil, oil paints, pen and ink.

She manipulates and explores materials within her work and is interested in the processes that are involved and the physicality of the materials.

To view more of her work visit her blog at or Facebook page or Kute Fine Art.
