FUTURE management of more than 21 square miles of moorland on the edge of Sheffield is up for debate at a meeting this week – with plans on the table to include better access arrangements.
Sheffield Council owns Blackamoor, Burbage, Houndkirk and Hathersage Moors, while other areas are owned by Yorkshire Water, the Peak District National Park Authority and the National Trust.
The council-owned area is currently managed by the National Trust under an agreement which expires in March 2013. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds also manages some of the moors.
Plans include considering how to ‘develop local pride and involvement’, increasing recreational opportunities and making use of the moors to provide educational opportunities.Follow @csabian
