POLICE in Bakewell have been targeting dangerous driving and poor vehicle maintenance as part of the multi-agency Operation Safedrive initiative.
Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team joined forces with CREST (Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team), roads policing unit, VOSA vehicle examiners and HM Revenue and Customs.
The vehicles were checked on Friday, February 3 outside Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell.
29 motorists were stopped for seatbelt offences, 10 drivers were pulled up for using their mobile phones and eight vehicles were found to have defective tyres.
Nine drivers whose vehicles had defects which seriously affected their roadworthiness were issued with prohibitions to stop them from going onto a public highway. Seven were immediate and two were delayed.
In addition, HM Revenue and Customs carried out fuel dip testing during the checks, to check for red diesel or specialist dye which may have been put into the fuel to help identify if it has been stolen.Follow @csabian
