Ashbourne’s cycle centre gets a revamp

Ashbourne’s cycle hire centre at Mappleton Lane centre, which is owned and run by the Peak District National Park Authority, endured a turbulent year in 2011, with its season dogged by several vandal attacks including a small fire.

In response, the authority has invested in a full re-fit, security upgrades and internal change-rounds and bosses say they are hoping customers will see an improvement to the shop and reception area.

A new fleet of bikes has been added, including two new electric bikes and its sister centre at Parsley Hay has also seen new bikes as well as an off-road mobility scooter and new bikes for disabled users.

As part of the re-fit, the popular refreshments kiosk has been moved and expanded and the business has now been taken over by Ian Wardle, a chef with more than 16 years experience in restaurants around the world.
