Matlock’s new £12m Leisure centre set to open

THE biggest single development ever undertaken by Derbyshire Dales District Council is due to open its doors to the public for the first time on Wednesday 24 August.

The scheme on a reclaimed site between Matlock and Darley Dale is already an award winner after Arc was named the Most Sustainable Remediation Project at the Brownfield Briefing Remediation Innovation Awards last October.

One of the outstanding features of the Arc development is the view across the Derwent Valley to the Oker hillside from the main pool hall, which is absolutely stunning.

The scheme includes the permanent protection of wooded ecological areas to each side of the site, the remediation of the existing sports pitches that will complement the new indoor facilities and improved footway links to the surrounding residential areas. In effect the development will provide a mini-country park for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

Arc Leisure Matlock is being funded by the District Council, with much welcome and significant financial support from the East Midlands Development Agency, Sport England, the Amateur Swimming Association and the Matlock and Area Sports and Recreation Group (MARS).
